Hugh James Roundtable

In January 2026, Hugh James hosted a Roundtable in their Cardiff offices and have since published a blog entitled "SuDS: What the housing sector agrees must change". Members of SAB Society Wales joined Welsh Government, the WLGA, Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water,  the RTPI, private developers and Registered Social Landlords to discuss "Unlocking SuDS delivery".

SuDS 101 - A Wales Green Infrastructure Forum Introduction to Sustainable Drainage

What makes a Sustainable Drainage System (SuDS) more than a random collection of green spaces? Why can't you simply pipe surface water into a big pond downstream of a development? Why do SuDS have to look good? How can you possibly include space for nature?

Wales Green Infstructure Forum hosted one of the UK and Europe's top SuDS designers - Kevin Barton, Managing Director of Robert Bray Associates - answers all these questions and more. "Old School" SuDS aren't just unsightly, they take up way more space than they need and that costs money. Landscape-led SuDS are dispersed across the site, resilient, easy to monitor, safer, and extremely space-efficient.
